Stephen Brown 1959
- 91
Stephen ' Sid ' Brown, an Aston pupil of the 70's, was loved by all who knew him. He became one of the most popular and respected men in Birmingham sport. He played both Rugby and Cricket elegantly for Aston Old Edwardians and represented Greater Birmingham and Combined Birmingham Old Boys at Rugby.
Sid died aged 32 in 1991.
The great sadness caused by the loss of such a good man, lead to his friends deciding to establish a suitable memorial. The 'Stephen Brown Memorial Trust' was established, initially chaired by Sid's widow, Bobbie.
The Trust makes grants to assist deserving young sportsmen and women of all standards.
A total of fifty grants totalling over £12,000 have been made in the last fourteen years. Grants have been made to support a diverse range of sports including Rugby, Soccer, Judo, Athletics, Riding, Archery, Orienteering and Golf. In 2005 the trust made its first overseas award, to assist with Junior Rugby in South Africa.
We run a range of social and sporting events to raise money and are a firm part of the Aston Old Edwardians community.
Anyone wishing to request assistance, to know more about the Trust, or to make a donation should contact any of the Trustees.
