Aston added two more points to their league total with a good win at Telford. They made their usual slow start with Telford attacking and choosing to kick to the corners with their early, kickable penalties, such was the confidence they had in their line out. This was entirely justified but the driving part of their game was not quite up to scratch and Aston rebuffed the assaults. Aston's scrum was solid but Telford's persistence was rewarded with a try when they got their centre through the defence but they failed to convert. Aston responded strongly and marched to the other end where they exacted a penalty for handling and Bennett put it over. Aston repeated the feat within three minutes to take the lead and they maintained their pressure, driving Telford back in the loose until they cracked. A fifteen metre shunt saw Goldsmith, deservedly, claim the try for Aston in a tremendous attack which had twelve Aston men in the maul and Bennett converted. Telford's good work in the line out kept them in the running whilst Aston's scrum was the source of much good ball. Both sides toiled away for a time without a great deal happening but Aston finished the half with another fine assault in which they only just failed to get points on the board. Telford came out fighting for the second period and created a couple of clean breaks from their big centre. They could not finish these with a try but they managed a penalty from the pressure and they continued to do well for fifteen minutes before Aston could turn the tide and go on the offensive themselves. This was Aston's best period with Wall, from full back, making headway with some intelligent incursions. With Telford under the hammer near their own line it was only a matter of time before Aston breached the defence and it was Franklin who produced the goods with a try after a line out drive and ruck with credit to all the forwards involved. The conversion, by Bennett, set the seal on the game.
