Aston put out a scratch side of First and Second teamers for this local encounter but the blend was not good enough to post a victory against a better and more adventurous team. Burntwood were quickly out of the blocks and exerting pressure in Aston's 22 but they did not threaten Aston's line. A determined breakout by the home team gave Maksymczuk the chance to kick an easy penalty, a feat which he repeated a few minutes later to give Aston a six point lead against the run of play. Burntwood, undaunted, took up the challenge once again and Aston's luck failed to hold as the attackers breached Aston's defence in the corner for an unconverted try. Aston rallied and Maksymczuk was able to put over two more penalties before the break but Aston now had to play against the slope in the second period. Burntwood turned the screws and, having been awarded a penalty near Aston's line, opted to scrummage. This worked out well for them as they got their centre over and converted the try to tie the scores. This was just reward for their commitment to throwing the ball wide and they earned a big territorial advantage to kick two more penalties to close out the game and take a deserved win.
