| Result: |
Aston Old Eds 24-- 9 Wednesbury |
| Report: |

Saturday's results brought the teams vying for top place much closer together. Another win for Aston saw them consolidate their position close to the top of the table with eight wins. The game was a rather lacklustre affair and both sides found it hard to create, and use space. Wednesbury were well into their stride early on and opened up a lead of nine points with three penalties. Aston began to exert themselves after this and visited Wednesbury territory where Maksymczuk kicked a penalty for the home team. Wednesbury's tackling was solid and Aston found it difficult to go forward but, before half time, they worked the ball along the backs and fed Merrick who made a fifty metre run up the right wing in Aston's one, fluent backs attack of the half. The second period saw Bennett miss a penalty attempt early on as Aston began to get a hold on the Wednesbury pack and a series of line outs close to Wednesbury's line allowed Jenkins to cross after a great forward drive and Bennett converted. Aston remained on the offensive and lost a man to a yellow card for some stamping but they got a second try through Wood who chased a clever chip from Maksymczuk and went over near the posts to give Bennett an easy conversion. Wednesbury found it hard to play in Aston territory against the slope and Aston had an effective stranglehold on their opponents late in the game. Aston's pressure in the bottom left hand corner had Wednesbury in all sorts of trouble up front. The referee penalised them heavily as they sinned manfully in their effort to stem the tide. Eventually, the referee's patience wore thin and he awarded a penalty try which Bennett once again converted to set the seal on the scoring and give Aston a deserved victory.
