Aston had a fight on their hands at Telford in the first league encounter, eventually running out deserved winners but Telford folded badly from half time on this occasion and conceded a landslide of points. They took the lead with an early penalty but Aston were soon into their stride exerting pressure against the slope. From a five metre scrum the referee awarded a penalty which was quickly taken and Maksymczuk dummied his way over for Bennett to convert.Telford were no match for Aston in the scrum and this weakness caused them problems throughout. In difficulty they handled in the scrum and Bennett was able to kick a penalty won by forward sweat to conclude the scoring in the first period. An early try from Bennett set the pattern for the rest of the game and, in short order, Allsopp was on the sheet after good interplay between forwards and backs. Telford had nothing to offer up the slope except honest effort but the tide had turned against them and damage limitation became their goal. However, from a five metre scrum Vlahakis found his way across the line and Aston cut loose with some confident plays. Wood was next on the sheet with a well taken try and intelligent use of space before, inevitably, Stanley claimed a try after a line out catch and drive. Telford fought back and made a rare visit to Aston territory but a poor pass was intercepted by Jenkins which led to a try for Bennett and , from the resulting kick off, Aston scored the best try of the game through Wall after excellent handling and support. Through all this Bennett kicked the last six conversions and, with his brace of tries, bagged a personal haul of 27 points, giving Aston easily their best score of the season and maintaining the improvement of recent weeks. |
