Aston took part in the Old Yards' pre season tournament which, unfortunately, saw only three teams joining combat.
Yards kicked off with a win against Camp Hill who then defeated Aston in the next game. Chris Windsor went well for Aston's try from 50 metres and Blake Bennett converted. Aston went on to take the following game against Yards by a margin of 21 points, putting together some bright , open, attacking rugby with tries from Marcus Harewood, Alex Zarifeh and Terry Finn and Blake Bennett was on target with all three conversions.
The second round games were rather better contested and Aston went down by a try to Camps as they were outflanked on the right but, in a toughly fought game against Yards, came through by a solitary try from Rob Chesnor with Blake Bennett's inevitable conversion thrown in. Aston, thus. finished second in the tournament which was a sound preparation for a big challenge on Saturday when they face Bromsgrove at Sunnybank Avenue. K.O. 2.30 pm. |
