Match: AOE 1sts v Sandbach ( League )
Result: Sandbach 10 -- 20-- Aston Old Eds
Report:

Neither side in this encounter had been defeated this season and a top of the table away game was still a tough proposition for Aston. They passed the test and came away with a solid victory which saw an improvement in the set play and some good work in the loose. Sandbach opened the scoring playing down the slope when their fly half split the defence and put his centre in close to the posts and his try was converted. Sandbach continued to press and got the better of the territorial battle but Aston rallied and drove into the Sandbach 22. They had several charges at the line from close range and got over but the referee could not award the try. They lost two men to yellow cards in quick succession but fought strongly and conceded no points, hard as Sandbach tried. Indeed, it was Aston who were next on the sheet as Bennett notched a penalty before the break.
Aston's start to the second period was bright and determined and they put their opponents under tremendous pressure in their 22. From a scrum Vlahakis almost made the line but when the scrum was reset he made no mistake with his pick up from number 8 and charged over for Bennett to convert. Sandbach replied immediately with a penalty of their own whilst Bennett's next attempt sailed wide of the mark. Aston camped in the bottom corner and had the home team in a vice. Sandbach lost their hooker for 10 minutes and were then given a penalty try warning for collapsing a scrum. On the reset Vlahakis claimed the try from a first class pushover and Bennett did the honours. Sandbach then endured a nightmare in the subsequent scrums. They could heel the ball but were unable to clear it and Aston's forwards created mayhem. In terms of points, however, Sandbach were still in the game and tried to run back at Aston after a steepling Bennett kick. Their desperation was their downfall as the attack was snuffed out near to the posts and they were penalised for holding on, with Bennett, naturally, kicking the penalty to seal the game.

The Seconds beat Pershore 45-7 with two tries for Morris and one each for Harrison, Davis, Allsopp and Buxton. McNamee scored 15 points with the boot. The Thirds went down 19-12 to Cannock Seconds with tries for Harvey and Homer and a conversion for Marshall whilst the Fourths succumbed to skill and pace to lose 53-14 against Birmingham Mechanics. Chase and Cowley scored tries and Duck bagged two conversions.
