Date: Sat 26th August 2007
Match: AOE 1sts v Walsall. ( Warm up. )
Result: Walsall 38 -- 28 Aston Old Eds
Report:

Walsall got off to a brisk start, showing pace and excellent support work which kept Aston stretched. Aston weathered the initial onslaughts until Walsall struck three blows in quick succession to establish a 19 point lead. They used the space well and made their chances count but Aston got back in the hunt when a great tackle from Wood dislodged the ball and Morgan was on hand to pick up and finish well near the corner for Bennett to convert. Walsall had much the better of the play but Aston finished the half strongly with a powerful drive to the Walsall line but the whistle intervened and the position was lost.
Walsall were next on the board when uncharacteristically poor tackling let the home side in for an unconverted try. From the kick off they scored the best try of the game with superb handling and support and the conversion was a formality. They extended their lead with another try from a short range penalty and converted again before Aston raised their game and came back strongly. Tovey got onto the scoresheet from a good pass and Finn had the last word scoring two tries very late in the match with Bennett converting these last three to leave a respectable ten point deficit for the visitors.
