AOE 1sts v Ludlow ( League ) |
| Result: |
Ludlow 44 -- 0 Aston Old Eds |
| Report: |
|
Away trips to Ludlow usually promise a challenge and a tough job for the visiting forwards. On this occasion Aston made a strong start and were well in control for the first fifteen minutes. They established, and maintained, some good field positions and during one of their attacks Aston lost the ball which was kicked on by the home winger who went on to score. Aston resumed the offensive and , though attacking strongly, made another error. Ludlow got away and went almost the length of the field before being caught by the cover defence. From the ruck, however, Aston were unable to stem the flow and lost a second try. Ludlow's backs were threatening throughout the game and Aston found it hard to cope with them as times. Positional changes made little difference and, gradually, Aston lost a little focus, finding themselves twenty points to the bad at half time. The second half was to be much of the same with Tovey and Finn working hard and doing well in defence. The line out and scrum held up well but the skill and speed of the Ludlow backs proved too great for the visitors.
The Seconds had a solid victory 43-21 with tries for Gardener, Maksymczuk, Tait, Harcombe, Brown and Carroll. The Thirds scraped home against Wyvern 20-19. Harrison, Vlahakis and Bradley scored tries and Watts kicked a conversion and a penalty. The Fourths had a great win against University Mechanics 14-5. Greaves got two tries and Pearson one, whilst Glasby converted two of them.
